Cali vs. Tolima will no longer be played this Saturday, May 29

On the morning of this Thursday, Dimayor announced that the match between Cali and Tolima, corresponding to the return of the quarterfinals of the BetPlay League, It would be played this Saturday, May 29, at 3:00 pm, at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín.

The decision was criticized by some football fans, who understood as a mistake the fact that the governing body of national football scheduled the match at the same time as the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, before 7:00 pm it transpired through various sports journalists that the match between ‘azucareros’ and ‘pijaos’ will finally not be able to be played in the capital of Antioquia. The Mayor’s Office of Medellín regretted hosting the game in the face of threats from some brave barracks that they indicated that they would boycott the meeting in the surroundings of the stadium.

This is the fourth time that the only pending game in the quarterfinals has to be rescheduled. The game should have taken place last Saturday, May 1stBut the public order problems that the country is experiencing due to the national strike have not made it possible.

What happened with this game also affects Millonarios, Junior and Equidad, the three teams that are already classified to the semifinals of the tournament. Without defining the series between Valle del Cauca and Tolima, the round prior to the grand final cannot be formally started.

Tolima won the first leg 3-0 and has one foot in the next phase. In case of confirming the advantage he took in the first leg, those led by Hernán Torres will be measured in the semifinals against Equidad.

Now it is a question whether Dimayor will keep the semifinals and the final with round-trip matches or if it will choose to make its winners known in a single match that could be on neutral ground.
