Burundi: badminton is gaining ground

In Burundi, badminton is gaining ground.

The Burundian Badminton Federation (FBB) has just completed a training program for tutors, teachers and players.

An initiative developed under the pShuttle Time guards, which aims to develop the learning and practice of this sport in schools.

Given the courage and determination of the young students, the trainers have no doubts about the promising future of this game in Burundi.

Some already dream of a career in badminton.

“My dream is to get very far. That I train the others and that I have my own ground because they are insufficient “ revealed Choise-Reine Akeza, a high school student at Notre Dame de la Paix.

The Burundi Badminton Federation is determined to implement this game in the country by integrating it into schools.

“We have set the objective as follows: by 2024, we will have trained at least 100 physical education teachers from 100 selected schools across the country. We are going to draw at least 200 plots in all of these schools. We hope within 4 years to have trained at least 10,000 badminton players. “ said the president of the Burundian Badminton Federation, François Ndondo.

Badminton arrived for a long time in Burundi. Only, it was not known to the general public because it is played in covered and closed environments. The FBB has existed since 2005 and activities were effectively relaunched in 2017. In all, 12 clubs have already been created.
