Borneo FC officially has five foreign players, how come?

Borneo FC has completed four of their foreign players, suddenly one name has been officially announced as part of the team.

Borneo FC has officially presented a foreign player who plays as a midfielder, he is an Argentine player named Jonathan Bustos, who is a new face in Indonesian football.

Bustos is still in his golden age, which is 26 years old, and has spent many careers in his home country. Currently Bustos is still undergoing quarantine in Jakarta, and in a few days will immediately fly to Yogyakarta, where Borneo will hold a training camp (TC).

“We welcome Jonathan Bustos, and we hope he can boost the team’s game and bring Borneo FC to the top,” said team manager Farid Abubakar, quoted by the official Borneo website.

Bustos’ presence is in accordance with the direction of the coach team from Pesut Etam, led by Mario Gomez. But interestingly, Borneo currently has a surplus of foreign players, with their names they have.

Before Bustos arrived, there were already Javlon Guseynov, Nuriddin Davronov, Amer Bekic, and Francisco Torres. The last name has just followed, after he had left Borneo and did not participate in the 2021 Menpora Cup.

This situation raises the question, how can Borneo have five foreign players in one season. Because according to regulations from PSSI and PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), a maximum of four foreign players are used, with details of which one player must come from an Asian country.

The management and coaching team of Borneo certainly understands this, and they will also find the best solution how to respond to the strengths of foreign players that are happening at this time. What is clear, the five players will follow the team program to welcome the competition.

“Meanwhile, all foreign players belong to Borneo FC. I don’t know what will happen later. We could use all the existing players, or there could be a reduction. It all depends on the coach who understands what the team needs in the competition,” said Farid.

Borneo is a team that is quite active in shopping for the new season. One of the breakthroughs they did was presenting Wawan Febriyanto from TIRA Persikabo. This is unique, because Wawan had previously failed to join Arema FC, to PSS Sleman.

“Yes, I am happy to be able to join Borneo FC after five years at TIRA Persikabo. A new adventure for me, and a new challenge for sure,” said Wawan about his impression of joining the club from Samarinda.
