According to Valentijn Driessen, football chief of The Telegraph, Steven Berghuis would be more than happy to move to Ajax. The Amsterdam club, however, would see more in Steven Bergwijn – attacker of Tottenham Hotspur.
For Berghuis, VfL Wolfsburg – the club where Mark van Bommel is going to work – and PSV seem serious options, but Ajax attracts him more. ‘Berghuis is high on his (Van Bommel, ed.) Wish list. Ajax was also mentioned earlier, but I think Ajax is going more for Bergwijn. He is higher on the list than Berghuis. ‘
“Berghuis himself would like to go to Ajax,” Driessen adds a little later with high-profile words. “He has the clubs to choose, but he wants to stay a little bit close to home.”
Driessen also discusses the impending departure of Kjell Scherpen, who seems to be relocating to Brighton & Hove Albion for five million euros. ‘Then you have made a profit of three million euros in two years. You can do that much better than renting it out to FC Emmen. He is quite a nice goalkeeper, but this will not be a top goalkeeper. ‘
