Beach volleyball players Pļaviņš / Točs enter the first round of the World Tour / Article

Latvian beach volleyball duo Mārtiņš Pļaviņš / Edgars Točs ended their games in the four-star group of the World Tour with a loss in Sochi, Russia on Friday and will start the elimination tournament from the first round, according to the organizers.

In the game for immediate entry into the second round of elimination, Pļaviņš / Točs lost 0: 2 (7:21, 14:21) to the Russians Ilya Leshukov / Konstantin Semyonov. In the first game in the group Pļaviņš / Točs on Thursday beat the Swiss Marko Kratiger / Florian Bēr with 2: 0 (28:26, 22:20).

In turn, Aleksandrs Samoilovs / Jānis Šmēdiņš lost to the Americans Nikolas Lusen / Filip Dalhauzer in the first game in the group with 0: 2 (10:21, 15:21). In the playoffs, Samoilov / Šmēdiņš has to meet the Dutch pair Stefan Burmans / Jorik de Grot.

For women, the Latvian couple Tīna Graudiņa and Anastasija Kravčenoka came out of the group after the games in the first round, where they will meet the Spaniards Amarantu Navarro / Anhel Erero. In the first game in the group, the Latvian ladies beat the Japanese Miki Isī / Megumi Murakami with 2: 0 (21:17, 21:15), but in the next fight with 0: 2 (17:21, 18:21) the German couple Laura Ludviga / Margareta Kozuhas superiority.

Pļaviņš / Točs and Graudiņa / Kravčenoka have already secured participation in the Tokyo Olympics, while Samoilov / Šmēdiņš has yet to earn points on the World Tour to qualify for a place in the ranking.

CONTEXT:

In the world tour, competitions are divided into one- to five-star tournaments according to their importance. Both the number of rating points to be obtained and the prize fund of the competition are attached to the number of stars in the tournament.
