Austria decision: the end of the Kraetschmer era

An era comes to an end. An era that can hardly be compared to a Hochschaubahn like any other. What started in 1997 (in the role of manager) will end on June 30th. Markus Kraetschmer’s contract with Austria as a board member (he had held the office since 2008) is no longer being renewed. It is probably the most important result of the supervisory board meeting on Tuesday evening.

How things will continue with Kraetschmer at Austria in the newly founded Marketing GmbH is still unclear. In which one would like to bind international sponsors to the club together with the strategic partner Insignia. Whether Kraetschmer will keep this position is still open because the future with Insignia is unclear as the company has still not transferred any money.

The name Markus Kraetschmer is inextricably linked with the Viennese Austria. The now 49-year-old was already there when Frank Stronach joined the Violettes and, years later, did valuable development work after he left. In Kraetschmer’s time, the favorites were champions three times, most recently in 2013. A lot had been successful, a lot had failed. After the sensational title in 2013, expectations were too high, the bar set too high for the coaches after Peter Stöger, nine coaches have been on the payroll since then.
