Atlético Nacional ended its competition this first semester of 2021, adding three eliminations in the League, Copa Colombia and Copa Libertadores, where they were not enough to continue in the South American Cup as third in the group. At the end of the game where they lost 2-0 to Universidad Católica, coach Alexandre Guimarães and midfielder Bryan Rovira spoke about this new failure, this time on the continental level.
“Self-criticism is about taking full responsibility, because I’m the one in charge of this. It has not been the best closing of this second round and now we have to meet with the people and plan what comes next, ”said Guimarães.
The Brazilian coach commented on his feelings about this last game in Santiago. “We lost the first half due to another set piece situation, which we have been giving away a lot and that is what the rival raised. In the second half we dominated a bit, we needed to be finer and get the final stitch. We had to tie and in another situation of misunderstanding, the rival scored the second goal and that’s where the game was over ”.
Finally, Guimarães highlighted the pride of his team despite not achieving the goal. “I highlight the dedication of the players, the desire to go to the front and want to take advantage of the game.”
For his part, Rovira specified that “we lacked the final stitch, in the first half it was an even game, the small details made the difference and that result was achieved. Head up, a difficult defeat, tough for what Atlético Nacional means. We are proud regardless of this result and prepare for whatever is to come. In the end it is frustrating not to achieve the goal of qualifying, as normal we played good games, you have to raise your head and move on ”.
