A first start for the Warriors this summer?

After another disappointment, the Warriors will be active for the upcoming free agency. The front office will have to make some important decisions, but a player could quickly walk out the door. As often, it is the amount of the contract that may pose a problem.

Not in the playoffs this year, the Warriors will quickly want to forget this campaign. Injuries and many losses: This season has been bad enough for Steve Kerr’s men, who logically expect a pretty busy summer. Steph Curry’s future is talking about him, and Bob Myers tried to dispel doubts during his last interview.

However, this is another soap opera that is likely to create waves, and we think especially of Kelly Oubre Jr. The latter received a first push recently by Steve Kerr, and the news to come will change a lot of things down the road.

Indeed, the former Suns player will be a free agent in a few weeks. Given his generally bad season, despite good stats (15.4 points, 6 rebounds on average), one can wonder about his future at Golden State. Like any player, he will have requests, and these may slow down several teams.

HoopsHype, via reporter Michael Scotto, learned about Oubre’s future. According to the player’s clan, the interested party hopes to land a jackpot with around 20 million the year on his next contract:

The two parties will assess the different options. But from what I understand, Oubre and his clan hope to land a contract with around 20 million a year, and the idea would be to have the long term.

A long contract with around 20 million a year, needless to say that it takes space in a salary cap. When we know that the Dubs have not planned to keep Oubre in the starting 5, one wonders if the leaders will want to shell out so much money for a sixth man.

The answer ? No doubt not. This contract would be too big, and the Warriors have other expenses to deal with with the Curry dossier and its expansion. It is therefore highly likely that Oubre will go elsewhere, but will a team offer him so much? Here again, we can express some doubts.

Kelly Oubre Jr and the Warriors is a soap opera that may only last a season. The player’s demands are important, probably too much. We have to believe that the Dubs must already start looking elsewhere.
