1. FC Cologne: Timo Hübers from Hannover 96 before the change

Cologne –

While one hopes for high transfer fees from its own players, 1. FC Köln has to rely primarily on free transfer players for newcomers. So far, this has been successful: Marvin Schwänke (26) comes as a keeper free of charge from Danish champions Bröndby IF. Dejan Ljubicic (23) is moving from Rapid Vienna to the Rhine – also without a transfer fee. And now the next new addition is certain, whose contract expires in the summer.

  • Timo Hübers was head of defense at Hannover 96
  • Timo Hübers has a past at 1. FC Köln
  • Strong defender with an injury history

According to EXPRESS information, Timo Hübers (24) is moving to 1. FC Köln!

Has the successor for Sebastiaan Bornauw (22) already been determined? In any case, a promising defender will join 1. FC Köln. Timo Hübers, head of defense at Hannover 96 and in 2018 also in the Bundesliga with first appearances, is said to have given FC his promise. Until recently, the Lower Saxony had hoped to be able to persuade the home-grown company to extend their contract.

Timo Hübers leaves Hannover 96

But it is now clear: Hübers will leave the 96 – and join 1. FC Köln. Apparently, among other things, new coach Steffen Baumgart (49) was able to convince him of a change.

Hübers was also traded at Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen, but opted for FC. Also because he already has a Cologne past. In the 2015/16 season, the then junior international played for the U21s of 1. FC Köln, but a bruised pubic bone made him miss a total of twelve games.

Timo Hübers a leading player for 1. FC Cologne

Therefore, he knows the environment and now wants to prove himself to the professionals. Hübers is considered to be technically well-versed and is a leading player in character. However, his career was repeatedly slowed down by serious injuries: Hübers had torn his cruciate ligament twice, he lost almost two complete seasons, and two more knee operations were necessary so that he could continue his promising career.

Therefore, his salary expectations are likely to have been comparatively manageable, because he missed a total of twelve games last season.

At FC he hopes that his bad luck with injuries will finally change – and that the door to the Bundesliga will open permanently for the 1.90 meter tall defensive giant.
