Wimbledon does not rule out “maximum capacity”

The Wimbledon tournament, which will be held from June 28 to July 11, plans an edition “with reduced capacity”, although it does not rule out that it can be done at maximum capacity.

The third Grand Slam of the year was the only one not played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first cancellation of the tournament since World War II.

“Our aspiration is to host the best tournament possible, with the safety of fans, workers and players as the highest priority,” Wimbledon said in a statement.

Wimbledon, five months from the start date, works with the competent authorities and with the British Government to know how to act.

The rest of the Grand Slams could be played, either without an audience, like the US Open, or with a very small audience, like Roland Garros.

The Australian Open, which kicks off next Monday, It will do so with very restrictive measures that have forced its participants to carry out 14-day quarantines, as well as tests very frequently.

The situation of the pandemic in the United Kingdom is worrying, with more than a thousand deaths a day, but vaccination is progressing at a fast pace, with more than 10 million people immunized.
