The editorial’s blog> We’re more than a day away

The government of the state of Victoria has decided to cancel all the meetings of this Thursday following a positive test for Covid-19 which concerns an employee of the Grand Hyatt Hotel where 600 people concerned by the tournament are accommodated.

A five-day lockdown began Monday in the city of Perth for the same cause, a Covid Plus case. As you know, in Australia, we do not laugh with the virus and some have even pushed the plug a little further by believing that the country of the Kangaroo was finally the example to follow. They will be reminded that their confinement for several months (approximately 100 days) took place without financial support from the authorities and with denunciations worthy of another time.

That said, we can only be satisfied with the decision taken today because it will surely save the essential. The idea is quite simple. Everyone in their rooms ready for the “fateful” test. The negatives on the courts, the positives in their beds.

This is indeed the most likely scenario. This necessarily involves crazy logistics and a strong desire not to question everything. The authorities but also Tennis Australia can not indeed imagine putting an end to this little “happy barnum” which had allowed us to re-enjoy the pleasure of tennis with spectators.

If this is the case, it would be totally unfair and not deserved as everything has been built to avoid the worst.

So, obviously, we are not close to the day, even two, or even a little more if we can live an Australian Open in joy and good humor.

The good news is that there are four days left before the start of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2021 season, which means that the room for maneuver is enormous!
