MADRID, 2 (EUROPA PRESS)

Spanish tennis players Garbiñe Muguruza, Carlos Alcaraz and Mario Vilella have advanced to the round, respectively, at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Great Ocean Road Open, which are being held these days in Melbourne (Australia) before the Australian Open, while Aliona Bolsava, Pablo Andújar and Pedro Martínez have fallen and have ended their participation.

Muguruza, the main Spanish female racket (15), had no problems making her debut with victory in the Yarra Valley Classic, in the WTA 500 category, against the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck (6-2, 6-0), number 65 in the world. In fact, the Spanish born in Caracas did not have to face any ‘break’ ball against, and took advantage of five of the seven available.

The two-time ‘Grand Slam’ champion put the contest on track with a 4-1 start, and closed the first set by breaking, on her second chance, her opponent’s serve. Already in the second round, she did not allow the Belgian to score any points and concluded the duel with a ‘donut’ in just 54 minutes of play. Now, after showing her good form a week before the oceanic ‘big’, she will face the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, world number 39 in the second round.

Aliona Bolsava had less luck in the same tournament, who said goodbye to the Czech Marie Bouzkova after fighting for three sets (6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2) and more than two and a quarter hours. A single break was enough for the central European to win the first set, but the Spanish managed to equalize the clash in the tie-break of the second; Bouzkova ended Bolsava’s adventure by closing the final set with four consecutive points.

ALCARAZ AND VILELLA GO FORWARD; ANDÚJAR AND MARTÍNEZ, OUT

In the Great Ocean Road Open, one of the three tournaments this week and also held in the town of Melbourne, Carlos Alcaraz and Mario Vilella were the face, while Pablo Andújar and Pedro Martínez took the cross of the Spanish participation.

The young Murcian tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, only 17 years old, benefited from the withdrawal of Hungarian Attila Balazs when the match was only 2-2. Now, Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil and number 146 in the world will face the tournament’s top favorite, Belgian David Goffin, number 14 in the ATP ranking.

Meanwhile, Mario Vilella from Elche, 188 in the world, won his first victory on the ATP circuit after beating German Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets (7-6 (2), 6-4). After a very even first quarter, the 25-year-old tennis player took his sleeve in sudden death, and already in the second he countered the German’s first ‘break’ with four consecutive games. Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili will be his rival in the next round.

On the other hand, the Cuenca Pablo Andújar was surpassed by the Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas (6-4, 6-2), while the Valencian Pedro Martínez said goodbye to the Danish Mikael Torpegaard, who also defeated him in two sets (6-4 , 7-5).
