Sex scandal in Japan: The head of the Olympic organizing committee does not intend to resign – the Olympic Games

Mori, 83, is the former prime minister of Japan. He has chaired the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee for several years.

Mori said at a meeting of the Japanese Olympic Committee this week that women talk too much. This comment caused a storm in Japan, where women are often under-represented in politics and other senior positions.

“I will not resign. I have worked hard and helped for seven years. I will not resign,” Mori said.

The board of the Japanese Olympic Committee has 24 representatives, five of whom are women.

Mori’s resignation was demanded on social networks. He publicly apologized for what had happened.

“It was an inappropriate statement. I apologize for that,” said the chairman of the Tokyo Olympic Games Organizing Committee.

The Tokyo Olympic Games are scheduled for this summer from July 23 to August 8. The Olympics were scheduled for last year in the Japanese capital, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the sports forum was postponed to 2021.
