Report: Falcons, no interest in trading Matt Ryan or Julio Jones

With the risky bet of the Rams to acquire Matthew Stafford from go on Lions, it was speculated that the Falcons could shed Matt Ryan and bet on young talent. However, in Atlanta they endorse the Boston College product.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero, from NFL Network, the Falcons are unwilling to part with Ryan. It was added that the organization Nor is he available to transfer Julio Jones.

It was added that one of the main reasons for retaining both veterans – Ryan, 35, and Jones, 31 – is that New Falcons coach Arthur Smith is expected to establish an offensive scheme similar to the one Atlanta employed in 2016, year they made the Super Bowl and Ryan was named MVP.

That campaign was Ryan’s best in all respects. The passer concluded the aforementioned season with 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns, just seven interceptions and a 117.1 rating, all his best professional records. These figures contrast with the 4,581 yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 deliveries and a 93.3 rating he achieved in 2020.

For his part, Jones went from accumulating 1,409 yards and six touchdowns in 2016 at 771 yards and three touchdowns in 2020, a year where injuries sidelined him for seven commitments.

More reasons

In addition to the sports part, it was reported that the Falcons are not willing to take the losses in the salary cap that would imply trading both elements. Reportedly cutting both elements would impact Atlanta’s payroll with $ 88.4 million ─49.9 by Ryan and 38.5 by Jones according to TheScore.
