Reece James was subjected to racial abuse on social media. This incident made Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich intervene to defend his player.
James fell victim to racism by irresponsible people on social media last week. The Chelsea defender got a reply from someone on his Instagram Story which contained inappropriate words.
James has become the fourth Premier League player to be the target of racism on social media in recent days. Previously, Axel Tuanzebe, Anthony Martial and Romaine Sawyers received similar treatment.
Chelsea has expressed its disappointment over what happened to Reece James. In its official statement, The Blues strongly condemns acts of racism that still occur in the world of sports.
“This club considers racism and all forms of discriminatory behavior completely unacceptable. We really condemn it,” explained Chelsea in their official statement on Saturday (30/1/2021).
Chelsea’s resistance to racism doesn’t stop there. Launch The Sun, Roman Abramovich took action by promising funds for the club’s fight against racial abuse.
