The Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza (5) overwhelmed the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (8) in the semifinals by a severe 6-1 and 6-0 and she will face local and world top ranked Ashleigh Barty in the Yarra Valley Classic final.

“Very happy to be in another final. My serve worked in the important moments and I have been taking control from the first moments. It’s always good to play against the best, in this case against the number one tomorrow ”, he explained after the conclusion of a match in which he maintained a high percentage of points converted with the first serve (88%).

Muguruza confirmed her status as one of the fittest tennis players currently on the circuit after paving a brilliant path to the final after conceding just ten games in his first four wins of the tournament.

Their previous results were 6-2 and 6-0 against Belgian Alyson Van Uytvanck; 6-1 and 6-2 against the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova; and a double 6-2 against the American and current champion of the Australian ‘major’ Sofia Kenin.

He will have the chance to equalize in the final the unfavorable head-to-head (2-1) that he maintains with the main ‘Aussie’ hope for the Australian season.

Barty won the semifinals in Birmingham (Great Britain) in 2017 and Doha in the quarter-finals in Doha (Qatar) in 2019; while Muguruza scored victory in the knockout stages in Toronto in 2017.

The three matches they played had a tiebreaker set, a statistic that augurs an exciting final that will be played this Sunday.
