The Latvian teams Jēkabpils “Lūši” and “RTU Robežsardze” / ”Jūrmala” on Saturday won the “Credit 24” championship against the leading clubs of the tournament. “RTU Border Guard” / “Jūrmala” won the Tartu “Bigbank” unit with 3-2 (25:20, 25:23, 22:25, 20:25, 15: 9) at home.
Renārs Pauls Jansons, Aleksandrs Avdejevs earned 20 points each in Jūrmala team, but the most valuable player of January Patriks Pinka added 14 more points. 24 points for Albert Hurts in Tartu team.
In the second game, Jēkabpils “Lūši” won the tournament leader “Saaremaa” at home with 3-2 (21:25, 25:20, 15:25, 27:25, 15:12) in a fierce battle. Significantly, Saaremaa had won the previous seven games against Lynx. Kristaps Šmits had 21 points in the “Lynx” team, but Kristers Dardzāns scored three less. Hindreks Pulks was the scorer for his team. These games were supposed to take place last week, but for security reasons, the matches were postponed. On Sunday, “Lūši” will meet with the Tartu unit, but “Saaremaa” will compete with the seamen.
Leading the league with 29 points in 12 battles is Saaremaa. The highest of Latvian clubs with 13 points in nine matches is “RTU Robežsardze” / “Jūrmala”, which is in the sixth place, but the position below with 12 points in ten games is “Lūši”. Ten teams are participating in the men’s competition this year in the Credit24 Championship – five from Estonia (Tartu “Bigbank”, “Parnu”, “Saaremaa”, Tallinn “Selver” and “TalTech”), four from Latvia (“Daugavpils University” / “Ezerzeme”) , “RTU Border Guard” / “Jūrmala”, Jēkabpils “Lūši” and “Biolars” / “Jelgava”), and among the participants there are again Lithuanian representatives – Klaipeda “Amber Volley”.
Two Latvian teams “Biolars” / “Jelgava” and “Daugavpils University” / “Ezerzeme” will not play this season due to the masterful Covid-19. At the end of March last year, due to the spread of Covid-19, the organizers of the tournament decided not to play in the “Final four” tournament, as a result of which the champions were not crowned.
