Federer reports return. I start again from scratch, but I want big wins again, he says

Tennis player Roger Federer plans to return to the courts at the March tournament in Doha after a break of more than a year due to two knee surgeries.

The 39-year-old veteran, who last played the semifinals of last year’s Australian Open with Novak Djokovic, said this in an interview with Swiss radio SRF.

“I love tennis. I’ve put a lot into rehabilitation, fitness work in recent months. I had to start from scratch, but it still makes me happy,” said the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Originally, Federer wanted to start at the Australian Open, but in the end, despite the postponement of the start of the tournament to February 8, he did not have time to prepare perfectly.

It will be played in Doha from March 8 to 13, and the former world number one still has high goals for the upcoming season.

“I would like to celebrate big wins again. To be prepared for that, I still have a long and difficult way to go,” said Federer, for whom the start in Doha will be the first test.

He wants to focus on Wimbledon, the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo and the US Open this year.
