Speyer. Since today, Monday, the city of Speyer has received support from the Bundeswehr for its quick test offer. After the application for assistance to carry out rapid tests was approved, three Bundeswehr soldiers from the Germersheim Air Force Training Battalion were on site at Seekatzstrasse 5 today.
Here they were met by the city’s medical advisor, Dr. Klaus-Peter Wresch, as well as the city fire brigade inspector Peter Eymann introduced into the intended field of activity. As of now, in addition to the previous quick test offer, people who would like to visit their relatives in Speyer retirement and nursing homes can be tested for the coronavirus in advance using an antigen quick test from Monday to Friday.
“Extensive human resources are required for regular testing in accordance with the requirements of the state ordinance. We are happy that our comrades are so quick to work, thanks to which the senior citizens’ and nursing homes can be relieved even more, ”said Mayor Stefanie Seiler. “This shows that the Bundeswehr can be relied on when the citizens depend on support.” The city bears board and lodging for the Bundeswehr soldiers for the period of their activity in Speyer.
Initially, for three weeks, the members of the armed forces work Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the youth development facility, Seekatzstrasse 5. So far, the quick test offer established by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Speyer and the city has been limited to Tuesdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This offer continues to exist.
After consultation with the Protestant Diakonissenanstalt Speyer, two Bundeswehr soldiers from the Germersheim Air Force Training Battalion are deployed to carry out PoC antigen rapid tests in the Haus am Germansberg senior center and the Bürgerhospital senior citizen center.
