Ex-star Afellay ends his career after being without a club

Ibrahim Afellay was under contract with FC Schalke 04 from 2012 to 2013 and also scored in the derby against Borussia Dortmund. Now the Dutchman has ended his career.

Ibrahim Afellay has ended his football career. The 34-year-old announced this on Sunday evening on the “Studio Voetbal” program.

“There were a few offers and I would have liked to have continued for another year, but not at any price. What I wanted wasn’t there. It’s a good thing,” said Afellay, who had been without a club since last summer.

Goals against Arsenal and Dortmund

Despite being without a club for six months, Afellay can look back on a successful career. In 2004 he made his professional debut for the PSV Eindhovenbefore moving to the FC Barcelona moved to where he only a few months later the Champions League won.

From 2012 to 2013 he laced for the FC Schalke 04 the shoes, completed a total of 15 games. He is particularly against the fans of the Royal Blues because of his goals against Arsenal in the Champions League and in the Revierderby Borussia Dortmund keep in remembrance.

After returning to Barcelona he played for Olympiacos and Piraeus Stoke Citybefore returning to Eindhoven in July 2019.
