Corona is also making a big impact on ‘t Kiel: six to seven million less income for Beerschot this season | Belgian Football

BeerschotThe corona crisis will cost Beerschot six to seven million euros this season. Director Jan Van Winckel dropped that figure in the Purple Pod Army podcast and later confirmed it to our editors.

“Without Covid-19 we would have been completely launched,” says Jan Van Winckel. “Our subscription record was broken, with Yelo we got a big shirt sponsor and there is an enormous waiting list for our VIP boxes in the stadium. And that while we had just doubled the prices for such a VIP box. We were doing very well in the field of hospitality. But there was more to it. Unfortunately, playing football without an audience will cost us about six to seven million over a whole season: pennies that we would normally have seen pouring in, but are now missing. ”

“That requires additional investments, which we might otherwise have made in other businesses. At the same time, Beerschot is and remains a healthy club ”, Van Winckel emphasizes. “We can bear this setback. Our shareholders cover everything. The necessary money has already been made available. ”

In connection with the stadium file, Van Winckel let slip that there are still two options on the table: a move to a new football temple at Petroleum South or a thorough make-over of the Olympic Stadium. “The latter would require very large investments, which we can only make if the city (which owns the stadium, ed.) Gives us a long-term concession. We are then talking about fifty or 99 years. ”
