Chelsea weakly hands Tottenham third defeat in a row, painful first for Mourinho | Premier League

Premier LeagueThings are going from bad to worse with Tottenham. The Spurs suffered their third loss in a row at home against Chelsea. Jorginho decided the match with a goal from the spot. José Mourinho lost two home games in a row for the first time in his career.

Thomas Tuchel took over the Chelsea helm from Frank Lampard in January and had a starting spot in store for Ziyech in the first game with Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, the former Ajax player was allowed a rest against Burnley and left out of the match selection. On a visit to Tottenham Hotspur, Ziyech also had to make do with a place on the bench, although he had indicated in advance that he was one hundred percent ready for the London get-together.

From the bench, he saw his teammates take a 0-1 lead in the 24th minute. Timo Werner was brought to the ground by Eric Dier and the ball hit the spot. A breeze for Jorginho, who shot the ball against the ropes just outside Hugo Lloris’ reach.

After the final whistle, that utilized penalty even turned out to have been the decision, because in a not very uplifting derby, the Harry Kane-less Tottenham was no longer able to score. Carlos Vinícius was closest to it just before time, but his header went wide.

As said, Ziyech stayed on the bench for the entire match. He had to watch how Andreas Christensen replaced the injured Thiago Silva before half time and how N’Golo Kanté (who made his return) and Christian Pulisic used the other two substitution possibilities of Tuchel.

With the win, Chelsea climbs over Tottenham in the rankings to sixth place. For Spurs it was already the third loss in a row and the second home loss in a row: a first for José Mourinho. He never lost two home matches in a row.
