Australian Open: Mies has knee problems

The successful duo Kevin Krawietz / Andreas Mies cannot start together at the Australian Open. The 30-year-old Cologne Mies has to pass due to knee problems. Mies confirmed the “extremely bitter” message to SID by video message on Wednesday. Krawietz (Coburg) will start with Yannick Hanfmann in the doubles competition (Karlsruhe).

Actually, Mies should have played for the German team in the ATP Cup, but was no longer able to participate in the 2-1 success against Canada on Wednesday morning.

“I saw a knee specialist again after the game and showed him my MRI images,” said Mies via video: “He also advised me again not to continue playing here for the time being and also to pull out of the Australian Open.”

He will stay with the German team this week and support them. Then he will fly home and discuss with specialists whether an operation is necessary. Mies, who won the French Open for the second time with Krawietz last year, has had the problems for several months.
