Unsurprisingly, the doubles match was necessary to decide between Canada and Serbia in the ATP Cup. It was finally the pair of world number one Novak Djokovic and his partner Filip Krajinovic who had the upper hand in two sets of 7-5 and 7-6 over that of Milos Raonic and Denis Shapovalov.

Earlier in the evening, Milos Raonic had fulfilled his part of the mandate for Canada by defeating Dusan Lajovic.

The great server had won his duel 6-3 and 6-4 to give his team the lead 1-0.

Raonic was never worried in this meeting which lasted just under 80 minutes. He allowed no break point to his rival and he closed the books on an ace.

In the other singles duel, Denis Shapovalov had the difficult task of facing world number one Novak Djokovic in an attempt to offer Canada victory. The logic was, however, respected while the Serbian was able to slip twice at the end of the round to level the mark in the confrontation.

Djokovic defeated the Canadian 7-5 and 7-5 thanks to service breaks recorded twice at the end of sets which each lasted almost an hour. Shapovalov tried to clear a match point as he came to the net, but Djokovic pulled off a super winning shot to give Serbia a point.

Canada play in Group A with Serbia and Germany. Canada will therefore have to overcome Germany to hope to advance to the next round of the ATP Cup. Recall that Serbia won the 2020 edition of this tournament.

To start the duel against the Germans, Milos Raonic will face Jan-Lennard Struff while Denis Shapovalov will cross swords with Alexander Zverev.
