ASVEL is the team that makes its nationals play the most in EuroLeague

After 23 days out of 34, we wondered what was the use of national players by EuroLeague clubs … And cocorico, it appears that ASVEL is far ahead! 56.9% of the playing time distributed so far has been given to the French. A sign that Tony Parker’s plan to set up a “French Team” is well in place. In addition to French investors, managers and coaches, the Rhone club relies on the formidable pool of French basketball to build up its workforce.

Moustapha Fall, Antoine Diot, William Howard, Guerschon Yabusele, Charles Kahudi … ASVEL relies on a sacred nucleus of French internationals. It should also be noted that the club achieves the feat of aligning a player who has never left the structure (amateur and professional) with the strong winger Amine Noua, who began in the basketball school of the ‘association. Originally from Vénissieux, Paul Lacombe has also been to the club in U13 and at the training center. Training center that Matthew Strazel also joined after playing for Marne-la-Vallée.

Turkish teams at the bottom of the standings

It should still be remembered that ASVEL is the only French team at this level, while the four Iberian clubs must share top-level Spanish players. Behind ASVEL, we also find Kaunas, the only Lithuanian team, and the Red Star, the only Serbian team. We also see that the two Athenian formations empower the Greek players, offering a good base for the national team.

On the contrary, the Turkish formations clearly do not have this will. Fenerbahçe nevertheless has plenty to do on the national scene with two naturalized (Bobby Dixon and Tarik Biberovic) and the Jordanian international Ahmet Düverioğlu who also has Turkish nationality. Finally, Baskonia has only one Spanish player, Ilimane Diop. In the league, the Basques do with many locally trained players because they arrived very young at the training center. On average, EuroLeague teams entrust 28.9% of their playing time to nationals of their country.
