“Zemgale” / LLU is winning for the 11th time in a row

“Zemgale” / LLU team on Wednesday repeatedly won the Hockey School “Rīga” (HS “Rīga”) in the “Optibet” hockey league (OHL) game on two days and celebrated its 11th success in a row. “Zemgale” / LLU at home won HS “Riga” with 9: 3 (2: 1, 5: 0, 2: 2).

Rustams Begovs revealed the result of the game in the fifth minute of the first period, but the lead was doubled five minutes later by Aleksandrs Visockis. Edvards Bergmanis managed to regain one goal by the end of the third, but in the second period, the Rigans noticed a severe suffering. Richard Bernhard reached 3: 1 in the eighth minute of the second period, but Visockis stood out twice, while Robert Jekimov and Frank Razgals added another goal. Kirill Tambijev also started the third period with a goal, the guests were able to recover two goals, but the final word belonged to Begov, who rose two minutes to the final whistle signal. In this duel, a hat-trick and one result pass for Visocki, Begovs scored 2 + 2, but for Jekimov a goal and two assists.

The day before, the team based in Jelgava defeated the guests from Riga 6: 1. In the second match of Wednesday “Mogo” / LSPA at home with 3: 4 (1: 2, 1: 1, 1: 0, 0: 0, 1: 2) “Liepāja” lost to “bulls”. The winning “bull” in the second series of throws was realized by Kārlis Ozoliņš, but previously Artūrs Mickēvičs was also accurate. The only of the three free throws in the “Mogo” / LSPA team was taken by Ričards Grīnbergs. Krišjānis Rēdlijs was the richest hockey player in this match with two assists. Ričards Fomins, Klāvs Plānics and Ozoliņš stood out with goals in the Liepāja club.

The leader of the championship with 35 points in 21 games is “Olimp” / ”Venta 2002”, further with 34 points in 20 matches “Zemgale” / LLU, while “Mogo” / LSPA has accumulated 28 points in 24 dues. “Liepāja” has earned 27 points in 21 games, Daugavpils “Dinaburga” has scored 12 points in 21 matches, HS “Rīga” follows with ten points in 19 duels, but the last or seventh position with ten points in 22 games is occupied by “Prizma” / IHS.

In the 2020/2021 season OHL plays “Mogo” / LSPA, “Olimp” / ”Venta 2002”, “Zemgale” / LLU, Hockey school “Riga”, Daugavpils “Dinaburga”, “Prizma” / IHS and “Liepājas” . Last season, eight teams played in the Latvian Super League, but in the 2020/21 season there will be one team less, because “Kurbads” will not play in the tournament. Last season, the playoffs were not played, but the winner of the local championship was declared “Olimp”. The newcomer to the tournament won the decisive points after “Riga” did not come to the last match of the season with the “Kurbads” team. With its success, the Olimp earned the OHL the opportunity to compete in the Continental Cup organized by the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), but the international competition was canceled.
