WRC – Rich Millener on Suninen crash “It was like getting a kick in the teeth”

The street exit of Teemu Suninen, which took place on the special stage number one of Monte-Carlo did not go down to Rich Millener. The Finnish driver seriously damaged the Fiesta WRC’s roll cage in the accident.

Suninen up to that moment was keeping a very high pace, just think that at the last split, before the end of the test he had an advantage of five tenths on the winner of the test, Ott Tanak. About 400 meters from the end of the test, the Finn lost control of the car on the wet asphalt, which overturned, ending up in a ditch after hitting an embankment. Speaking to WRC All Live, Suninen declares himself pessimistic about his return to the race with the super-rally.

Until the moment of the accident, the feeling with the car was excellent. Unfortunately on a bend I lost my line and ended up against an embankment and then into a ditch, where I damaged the roll-bar when I hit a tree. It’s a shame to start the season like this. I will hardly be able to start again, the roll-bar at a first check seems damaged.

Embittered as mentioned Rich Millener, that after having faced a thousand difficulties and sacrifices to be at the start of the race, he finds himself with a useless car.

That’s not what we wanted, I’m very sorry for the team, we worked hard to be here today. We also managed to organize four days of testing and then we were rewarded in this way. What happened is really very disappointing. The pace was fabulous, but our plans were to bring the two cars to Monaco on Sunday, but we already missed one on the first day. After all the sacrifices made to be there and how to get a kick in the teeth. From the start we made it clear that the rally was going to be long, instead it turned into a short performance.
