VfB Stuttgart: Awoudja already gone, Ailton before saying goodbye

Sven Mislintat is known for last minute transfers. According to his own statement, it is very unlikely that Stuttgart’s sports director will sign a new signing during this transfer period. For this, two players will leave VfB for sure.

Maxima Awoudja is supposed to collect match practice on loan in Munich.

Mislintat emphasized again yesterday that the Swabians are “incredibly calm” when it comes to transfers. However, he knows “that things can get crazy in the last few days. Especially when Monday is the last day. I’ve seen the craziest things.” Only one thing is certain: “We won’t do anything when it comes to additions. I don’t know what should happen. We have a great squad.” Which, however, is being thinned out. “There are loose interests, rumors” that will become concrete this weekend.

For example at Ailton, who came from DG Estoril Praia in summer 2017 and was loaned back to the Portuguese the following winter. The left-back never made it into a real option at VfB and switched back and forth on loan. After Estoril, one-year contracts with Sporting Braga and Qarabag Agdam followed. Now the Brazilian, whose contract is expiring, is heading to Denmark, where, according to kicker information, FC Midtjylland is interested in him. Talks are ongoing, Ailton can go on a free transfer. They want “a good solution for the boy. We won’t put any obstacles in his way,” said Mislintat. “He always behaved great.”

Match practice for Awoudja

This also applies to Awoudja, whose time at VfB reached another low point in May 2020 with the torn Achilles tendon. The central defender, whose contract runs until 2022, has now been fully restored and was most recently integrated into team training. In order to give him match practice that he would certainly not get at VfB, the U-21 international was also awarded free of charge to the third division club Türkgücü Munich until the summer.

It is still unlikely that Erik Thommy, who is fully operational again after breaking his elbow from the preparation, will be a third VfB professional. The interest of Schalke 04 and Fortuna Düsseldorf, who wanted to borrow the winger, has so far met with little approval. “In economic terms, we have no need to sell anyone,” said Mislintat. “Unless it’s appropriate in the face of an offer.” Which would mean offers that would push both the player and the club into areas that the sports director meant by crazy.
