UANL vs. León – Party Report – January 9, 2021

The pair formed by André-Pierre Gignac and Carlos González paid off, as with scores from both, Tigres, current champion of the CONCACAF Champions League, defeated León, champion of the MX League, 2-0.

André-Pierre Gignac was close to putting the UNAL team ahead in the 16th minute, when he shot from outside the area, but the ball just went to one side of the visitors’ goal and a few moments later the Paraguayan Carlos González fired from medium distance, but did not represent a greater danger for the rival.

The hosts had the dominance of the actions, had more options and it was in the 39th minute that they took the lead with a free kick taken by André-Pierre Gignac from the left side and thus fell 1-0.

The Esmeraldas tried to react and in the complementary part Luis Montes entered the field of play, which helped the visitor to achieve a better performance, although the locals were still the most disturbing in front of the rival cabin.

Tigres had a clear option through Carlos González, who received the ball in the area and shot, but the ball was deflected by the rival defense to avoid the fall of his frame.

The insistence paid off for the Paraguayan striker, who in the 66th minute scored his first goal with Tigres, after he received a cross in the area, he finished off with a header and Rodolfo Cota rejected, but in the counterattack the same South American shot to put the 2- 0 on the scoreboard.

Towards the final stretch, the Esmeraldas tried to respond, but they were not able to do so, the UANL team still had other options that they did not specify and thus they finally achieved their first victory of the contest.
