Tshiebwe is in his second season with the Mountaineers. He’s averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in 10 games this season.
Oscar was one of the most prominent rookies to enter the WVU program in recent years and he burst onto the scene in his debut season a year ago. Originally from Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo and a graduate of Kennedy Catholic (PA) HS, the Mountaineers were the first to score (11.2 points) and bounce back (9.3) as a rookie.
WVU’s forward court depth took a hit earlier this week when rookie Isaiah Cottrell was lost for the season with a torn Achilles in the Northeast game.
Tshiebwe has just achieved one of his best performances of the season. He scored 12 points and caught 15 rebounds against Northeastern.
“I had a really good conversation with Coach Huggins,” Tshiebwe said after Tuesday’s win. “#He said, ‘You don’t need to think. Do a play. If you do, you do. If you miss, you miss. Play fair and play hard. I don’t think I played really hard like I always play.
