Trainerporträt VII – Vincent Giller – SV 1883 Schwarza eV Judo

Dear Judoka, in times when there is no competition due to corona, we continue our trainer introduction. Today with: Vincent Giller.

“The only thing that stands between you and your goals is the bullshit you tell yourself about why you did it [sic] can’t reach. ”-Jordan Belfort

You could say, like father, like son: Stefan Giller’s 21-year-old son Vincent followed in the footsteps of his successful and committed father both in terms of sport and lifestyle as a coach. From 2006 to 2019 he was active as a judoka. He is the holder of the 1st master degree in judo (Dan) and was able to place himself in the mixed team at the world championships in Zagreb 2017 as well as at the European championships in Sofia 2018 on the bronze rank. Emulating his father, who won many medals in the GDR, was also the reason why Vincent Giller began training. In addition to his father, his role model was Georgii Zantaraia, the Georgian-Ukrainian judoka and world champion of 2009.

What he likes most about judo is the complexity of the sport, which shows itself in an unbelievable wealth of technology and variety. In children and adolescents, it is important for athletes and coaches to find out the right techniques for each judoka, which can then be continuously improved. After his career as a competitive athlete, Vincent Giller wanted to continue devoting his time to judo, which is why he has been training himself for a year and a half. He wants to give the athletes what has shaped him over the years. He has been a base trainer at the Jena Sports Center since April. At the same time he is studying teaching.

His own work is reflected in competitions. Like many other Schwarza coaches, he has positive feelings when his protégés win and gets annoyed with them when they lose. Then the reasons are researched and these are dealt with in training. Vincent Giller is not a trainer in Schwarza like the others, but a trainer from Schwarza. Regarding his roots, he says that in his childhood he enjoyed a very good education through SV 1883 Schwarza, that his successes on a regional level laid the foundation for his later path to the sports high school in Jena and that his later victories have their crystallization point in Schwarza.

He would like to face the future without giving too precise predictions, but he assumes that he will still act as a coach on the mat in five to ten years.
