Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where different tournaments have been affected throughout the sports world, it now seems that Mexican golf is receiving a severe blow.
The PGA Tour was studying the possibility of playing the WGC-Mexico Championship outside of Aztec territory, with the aim of minimizing travel outside the United States for players and staff.
According to a journalist from the golf site ‘No Laying Up’, the WGC-Mexico Championship 2021 will finally be played on a course to be defined in Naples, Florida, between February 25 and 28, this information was corroborated by other North American journalists and of our country.
In addition, according to the same report, due to the new strategic alliance between the PGA Tour and the European Tour, the tournament would leave Mexico in 2022 to settle permanently in another country.
With this, the Mayakoba Golf Classic would be the only tournament within the PGA calendar to be held in Aztec territory.
