The Covid-19 again hit Chilean basketball. Through a statement, the LNB reported the suspension of the duels between CEB Puerto Montt and CD Las Ánimas, valid for the third week of the Copa Chile 2021 competition, after a player from the Academy tested positive for the disease. With this, there are already 12 matches that must be rescheduled due to the coronavirus.
“Due to a positive case of COVID-19 in the CEB Puerto Montt campus and the determination of the Health Department of the Los Lagos Region that the rest of the players must do a preventive quarantine, the matches for this weekend are suspended. week between the aforementioned club and CD Las Ánimas ”, announced the organization of the tournament through their social networks.
The Covid has affected the contest from the beginning, since the double opening date of the contest already had six fewer commitments. Las Animas could not play their two games against Ancud, due to three positive cases in the ghosts. The other four clashes, meanwhile, were not disputed due to the delay in the results of the PCR tests carried out on the schools.
The second weekend of competition was not fully developed either. The LNB notified the suspension of the matches between Puerto Montt and Ancud, due to two infections in the Chilote team, which will continue without making its debut on this double date, in which it had to face Atlético Puerto Varas, since it is still in quarantine.
Another duel that was not played was that of Deportivo Valdivia against Español de Talca, although the organization awarded the red-and-white victory 20-0 due to the failure to present the PCR results of Don Quixote.
To the 12 games suspended due to the coronavirus, there are two more from the University of Concepción, which will not take to the field for the Chile Cup this weekend, since it is in Argentina to play the Basketball Champions League Americas.
