Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, 18th player in the world, said in the pages of an Australian daily on Friday that he had been affected by the coronavirus at the end of 2020.

The 35-year-old winner of the 2014 Australian Open told the Herald Sun that he isolated himself at his home in Switzerland after testing positive for COVID-19.

“I’m trying to get back in shape. I was positive at Christmas, so I had to stay at home for more than 10 days and I completely lost all the work I had done outside of the season, ”Wawrinka explained.

“I felt really bad for the first five days, with symptoms, you feel more and more tired every day and it lasts a few weeks.”

However the Swiss wanted to be reassuring: “I’m starting to feel better, but you have to be really careful, it can hurt a lot”.

Like all other players who arrived in Australia to participate in the Australian Open, he had to undergo a 14-day quarantine period, which ended on Friday.

Wawrinka, who owns three Grand Slams, will take part in the Melbourne tournament before starting the first Grand Slam lift on February 8.
