The Technical Commission of the Ecuadorian Basketball Federation (FEB) will meet tomorrow to decide on the continuity or not of the second game of the final of the Women’s Basketball League.

The quintets of Victoria Cogarol and Audaz Octubrino were rushing to the second final on the field of the Julio César Hidalgo Coliseum. When the first quarter had been played and the scoreboard indicated an advantage for the Orense team by 11-12, members of the National Police burst onto the stage and suspended the match.

According to EL UNIVERSO newspaper, the members of the public force were warned about the presence of fans in the stands of the Quito stage, something that is prohibited by the cantonal COE authorities, and for that reason they were forced to suspend the commitment that will define to the winner of the tournament organized by the Ecuadorian Basketball Federation.

The FEB in a statement clarified that “The match has been suspended by the competent authority, by virtue of the fact that there was a greater number than the FEB had authorized.”

In addition, the national entity explained that in the phase that is being played (finals), the teams are the organizers of the date, so they are responsible for compliance with the biosafety regulations and the provisions issued according to the FEB Ecuador.

In the first game, which was held in Machala, the Orense representation won the 65-60 victory and needs a new triumph to be proclaimed champion.

For the second final, the teams started on the court with Melanie Cevallos, Viviana Zurita, Dayana Salcedo, Doris Lasso and Estefanía Peña, on the part of the Quito team; Liliana Angulo, Marjorie Caicedo, Jéssica Preciado, Leyda Macías and Olga Olives, formed by the orenses.

In a press release published by the FEB where it details parts of the competition regulations, it is detailed: “In the event of a game being suspended, due to any of these circumstances or force majeure, it will be played later on a date determined by the Technical Commission, being the local club responsible for all expenses with regard to lodging, food and transportation for both the visiting team and the commissioners and referees “.

In addition, the national entity made public in another section of the regulation: “These provisions will not be applied in the playoffs, since if they do not comply with the regulations, the game will not take place, which will not lead to a new date being rescheduled, with the local team losing the points “.

In reference to both articulated, the members of the Quito team maintain and defend that neither of the two sections can be applied because the game did start; while the position of the orense team is that they are declared winners.

Now the floor is for the Technical Commission that will meet tomorrow, at noon, and it will be decided whether or not the match is continued on the same stage or in another arena or if the Orense team is declared the winner. (D)
