Speed ​​skater Silov wins the fifth place in the World Cup stage with a joint start

Silov finished fifth with a time of seven minutes and 45.51 seconds, for which he scored six points and also finished fifth in the overall standings.

After places in the second ten thirds of the distance, Silov did not finish lower than the seventh and in the last five laps – for the fifth place in the last six laps of the race.

On Saturday, the Latvian speed skater scored 80 points in the overall World Cup.

The winner was Jorits Bergsma from the Netherlands, who earned 63 points for the victory at the finish, including 60 for the victory at the finish.

Belgian speed skater Bart Swings finished second with 40 points, third with 22 points – Swiss Livio Vengers, fourth with ten points – American Joyie Mentia.

Silovs is in fifth place in the overall World Cup standings with 236 points.

The leader with 302 points is Swing, Venger has 280 points, Bergsma has 270 points and Andream Giovanni has 255 points. The first follower after Silov with 234 points is Jordan Belchouz from Canada.

On Sunday, Silov will start in the 5000 meter B division competition.

It has already been reported that on Friday the Latvian won the third place in the competition with a joint start in his semi-final, convincingly qualifying for the final. He was among the leading athletes in all 16 laps.

Silov reached the finish line after seven minutes and 46,300 seconds, which gave him third place and another 20 points. The winner Giovanni was 2.82 seconds faster, while the second-placed Russian Ruslan Zakharov was 2.46 seconds ahead.

Eight of the best speed skaters from the two semi-finals qualified for the final.

It has already been reported that last weekend, in the first stage of the World Cup in Heeren, Silov finished in eighth place in the distance with a joint start, but he was in the sixth and 14th position in the 1500 and 5000 meters of Division B competitions, respectively.

Heerween will also host the World Skating Championships from February 11 to 14.

Last year, Silov won the seventh place in the distance with a joint start in the most important competitions of the season – the World Championship, the World Cup final and the European Championship.

Silov is a two-time European absolute champion in short track, but together with gold medals in certain disciplines, he holds five champion titles, which he won from 2008 to 2011. The athlete has competed in three Olympic Games since 2010, in 2018 in Pyongyang, finishing fourth in the 1,500-meter speed skating race.

In 2010, Silov became the first athlete to participate in both shorts and speed skating at the same Olympic Games, and did so in one day.
