Sara Goodrum makes history in Milwaukee

Sara Goodrum was promoted to minor league hitting coordinator by the Milwaukee Brewers, making her the first woman to serve in that role in a major league franchise.

Goodrum’s official title with the Brewers will be coordinator of batting development initiatives, but will essentially have the role of coordinator of minor league hitting.

The Brewers vice president of minor league operations Tom Flanagan said Thursday that “as far as we know, she would be the first” woman to hold that position in an MLB franchise.

Goodrum played softball for the University of Oregon from 2012-15 and served the previous three seasons in the Brewers sports science department. Her previous title was Coordinator for Integrative Sports Performance.

“Having seen her work with our hitters, not that she came from another department where she had no interactions with our player development staff,” Flanagan said. “She’s been there, up front, working with our hitters to a degree.”

“And I think his ability is unique,” Flanagan added. “They give her a very different perspective in terms of different training techniques that she probably has experience with and feels that she can implement and help reestablish our hitting resume and help our hitters train better and be better across our entire system. Just watching her work, all of our hitting coaches and player development staff feel that she can really impact hitting. “

Goodrum will be based in Phoenix, where the Brewers have their spring training base.

The New York Yankees hired Rachel Balkovec as a minor league hitting coach in 2019, the first woman in that position in MLB.
