Russell Westbrook and the Knicks sadly make history; James Harden joins Oscar Robertson

Here are the highlights of the night:

The Knicks water

Reggie Bullock (0/9) and RJ Barrett (0/8) combined a terrible 3-pts 0/17. They are the first pair of teammates to each sign at least a 0/8 to 3-point score in the same game.

The incumbents achieved a 0/23 from afar. This is the worst 3-point shot attempted without success for a 5 major in history

Another triple-double and one more loss for Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook compiled 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, his 4th straight triple-double, but each time in a loss. He is the 4th player in history to sign a triple-double in 4 straight losses after Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson and Elfrid Payton.

He is even on a 6-game losing streak when he achieves a triple-double, the longest streak in history.

The Wizards have lost their first 5 games of the season, the 6th time in their history and the first time since 2012-13. They missed the first 4 times in the first 5 seasons. Before 2007-08 this had only happened to them once. Or 5 times in 14 seasons, a record over the period

James Harden continues his streak

James Harden finished 2020 with over 30 points per game. This is the 4th year in a row he has finished with at least 30 points average, which allows him to equal the 3rd best series in the history of Oscar Robertson. Only Michael Jordan (8) and Wilt Chamberlain (7) did better

Christian Wood starts strong

With 21 points last night, Christian Wood starts his season with a 3rd game in a row at least 20 points. He is only the 3rd undrafted player in history to start a season with 3 games at least 20 points after Moses Malone and Connie Hawkins

Domantas Sabonis continue to dominer

Domantas Sabonis compiled 25 points at 10/14 including 2/2 at 3-pts, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in 37 minutes against the Cavaliers. Since 1976 only 2 other players have started the season with 5 games at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists: Kevin Garnett (2007-08) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (2019-20).

3rd for Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons scored his third career 3-point shot last night. He is now at 3/25 from far. His previous successful shoot behind the arc was in December 2019.
