Raptors can do better, says Nick Nurse

Sign that the situation is returning to the Toronto Raptors, head coach Nick Nurse was quite critical of the effort of his troops, Sunday, despite a first streak of two wins this season.

The Canadian team have won three of their last five outings, and their only two losses, conceded to the Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors, ended with a single point difference.

Well aware, however, that basketball is a sport of rhythm, Nurse said he was disappointed with several difficult stretches for his club in the 116-113 win over the Charlotte Hornets, who drove their own to 4-8.

“You know, I keep saying the same thing over and over again, there are some really good basketball sequences, [mais] the sequences which are less good cannot be as bad as they were this evening ”, ruled the pilot, according to remarks taken again by the daily newspaper Toronto Sun.

“They must be average or slightly lower [à la moyenne], and I think in this game we stumbled a lot. There have been some good segments, some really poor segments. And our really good segments probably weren’t as long tonight as they were in the last three or four games. ”

Fatal precision

The Raptors, however, were very effective when throwing out of the arc, making 21 of 49 shooting attempts for three runs. They were thus able to compensate for these bad times.

In this regard, Norman Powell was particularly successful with six baskets on nine occasions. His harvest of 24 points is also a peak for him this season. Nurse now hopes to be able to benefit more regularly from this offensive contribution from the bench.

“I know Number 24 had a great night,” said the instructor. We know what he’s capable of, that’s what we need. We need his “punch”, 15 [points] or so when it comes from the bench. We’re going to need this attack, to continue the offensive with the second unit. ”

The Raptors will now host the Dallas Mavericks in Tampa on Monday.
