Pumas thrashes Mazatlán and achieves first win in the Clausura | sports

MEXICO CITY (AP) – Uruguayan midfielder Facundo Waller, Carlos Gutiérrez and Emanuel Montejano scored the goals with which Pumas dispatched Mazatlán 3-0 on Sunday to get his first victory of the Mexican Clausura tournament.

From home at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Pumas took the lead at 10 minutes with a mid-range shot from Waller. Gutiérrez increased to 60 and Montejano put final figures at 71.

Montejano, 19, made his debut in the top flight when he entered the first half for Argentine striker Juan Dinenno, who suffered a left leg injury.

The university students, runners-up the previous tournament, tied on the first date. They are placed in third position with four points in the absence of playing four games in the remainder of the date.

After suffering its first setback, Mazatlán slipped to ninth with three points.

Pumas took the lead when Mazatlán lost a ball at the start and defender Alan Mozo gave a pass to Waller, who from outside the area hit a powerful left-footed shot that entered the base of the left post of the goal defended by Uruguayan Nicolás Vikonis .

Mazatlán came close to drawing the tie in the 33rd minute, with Efraín Velarde’s mid-range shot that crashed off the crossbar.

Pumas generated several occasions until his insistence was rewarded when Gutiérrez entered the area on the right wing and defined with a powerful shot.

Pumas ‘third was a corner kick in which Montejano took advantage of a rebound inside the area to take a low shot that entered Vikonis’ right side.
