no trace of man who hates animals

ANCONA – The hashtag #ilsilenziodeglinnocenti is already viral on social networks. There are photos of dogs forced to wear a muzzle, the only means of defense against the hater that for days has been spreading deadly meatballs on the sidewalks, in public parks, near the drinking fountains and keeping the “new” neighborhoods in check.

Meatballs with nails also near the carabinieri barracks: hunting for the man who hates animals

The man who hates animals does not yet have an identity. The local police have launched an investigation to give a face to the mysterious maker of morsels filled with screws and nails. The traffic police have acquired the images taken by public and private cameras, but at the moment the search has not produced any results. The perpetrator of the animal attack he is sowing remains unpunished, in addition to the lethal meatballs, anger and fear among the residents of Brecce Bianche and Monte Dago. Nobody can figure out who he is or explain why he does it.

“Only a madman can go that far” says Massimiliano Stampella, head of the Doric section of the Lav, the Anti-Vivisection League, who together with the other volunteers spent the weekend in the green areas of the area to retrieve other meatball-traps, capable of killing dogs and cats if ingested. The latest findings took place in the flower beds of Piazza Salvo d’Acquisto, near the police station. “We have plastered the area with posters and notices to warn residents – explains Crutch -, even inside the Mendez park, frequented by dog owners. We are also in contact with the municipal police to post signs at the Unicef park in via Togliatti: we fear that other meatballs may also be scattered there ».

The alarm grows especially on weekends. «We have noticed that the subject in question goes into action between Friday and Sunday. The suspicion is that it is always the same person. Who? Mystery. Maybe a freak, certainly someone who hates animals. The danger is not only for dogs, but also for children because the sausages with the screws inside can become a bait for them as well. On Sunday morning we found some meatballs-traps in the San Gaspare park, near a fountain, when they weren’t there until the night before. The concern is strong: there are three districts under siege. As an association we are thinking of filing a complaint, assisted by the national legal desk, even if the numerous reports received have already been enough to push the local police to start an investigation ».

The first warning signs date back to September and December, when in via Crocioni some morsels of meat stuffed with nails were found, following squabbles between residents due to the problem of not collecting animal excrement from the ground. The situation has degenerated since mid-January: over a hundred lethal sausages and meatballs have been discovered near the cycle path in via Sacripanti, near the baseball field, in the Istvas park, next to the church of San Gaspare, in via Ginelli and in via Brecce Bianche (Tigre supermarket area). At least 5 dogs were operated on by vets for having ingested screws and nails hidden in the morsels: a Maremma would have died. Advice? “Make your dogs wear a muzzle when you take them for a walk and keep cats at home,” warn animal welfare organizations.
