NBA, health and safety protocols change

The NBA and the NBPA (the association of players) have reached an agreement on the modification of the health and safety protocol. Shams Charania, NBA insider for The Athletic, announced the news, presenting the most important changes that we will illustrate in the article.

Among the novelties we point out the checks to which visitors of all members of the league are subjected. It’s the first time that not just the members of the league, but also theirs family and friends are part of the protocol health and safety. The members of the league can be visited by a maximum of four people including family members and personal friends residing in the same city, who must then be registered and must test negative for two swabs for Covid-19, one before and one after the visit.

But these are not the only changes in terms of regulations and agreements between the league and the players’ association. Players, coaches and staff members will be able to do physical activity outdoors once a day for a maximum of one hour, in places that are not crowded and by six in the afternoon. Lastly, individuals who regularly visit families in their homes will need to undergo two tests per week to avoid any contagion.

The health and safety protocols, decided by the NBA and the NBPA at the beginning of the season to manage Covid-19 cases and avoid mass contagion between players and staff, have been updated several times, the last a couple of weeks ago, when they were first limits were placed on the possibility of receiving visits. But the situation is complicated, inside and above all outside the world of basketball, and despite the protocols it remains very difficult to keep the infections under control.
