MLB – NY Mets add Aaron Loup

NEW YORK – The New York Mets have added a left-hander to their relieving box as they gave Aaron Loup a one-season contract, according to an Associated Press source.

This source, who is familiar with the negotiations, asked to remain anonymous, since the agreement is conditional on a successful medical examination.

The 33-year-old Loup maintained a 3-2 record and a 2.52 earned run average in 25 innings over 24 games last season with the Tampa Bay Rays. He allowed 17 hits, four walks, and struck out 22 batters.

Formerly known as a left-handed specialist, he limited right-handed hitters to an average of .192 with three home runs and 58 at-bat. The left-handed hitters have averaged .212 and have not hit a homerun in 38 batting appearances.

Loup has not allowed any runs in eight of his nine playoff games in 2020. No left-handed hitter has run against him since June 13, 2017.

Wolf is 15-22, six saves and a 3.38 earned-run average in nine seasons in major baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays (2012-18), Philadelphia Phillies (2019) and Rays. (2020).

Earlier in the evening, ESPN reported that the Mets had entered into a trade that sent Steven Matz to the Blue Jays.
