Latvian basketball player Mārtiņš Meiers scored ten points in the United League game on Sunday, without saving the “Astana” team from the loss. The Kazakh club acknowledged the superiority of Saratov’s Avtodor with a score of 83:92 (29:19, 19:22, 11:25, 24:26). Meier played 22 minutes and 47 seconds on Sunday, scoring four of the six two-point shots and two of the five “penalties”.
He also won six rebounds, scored twice, made one mistake, blocked one throw, broke five times, provoked seven notes and scored 13 efficiency points. Jūrmalnieks +/- indicator 6 was the best result in the team. Meier team member Ojārs Siliņš was not in the “Astana” application on Sunday.
Michael Thompson scored 20 points and nine assists for the home team, but Žeļko Šakičs scored the same number of points for the opponents and won 11 rebounds. Astana is in tenth place in the tournament table with four wins in 13 games, while Avtodor is seventh in seven battles.
As in the previous season, 13 teams will start in this regular tournament – nine from Russia, as well as one unit each from Estonia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Poland. For the second season in a row, the VEF Rīga team is not participating in the tournament. The 2019/2020 league season ended prematurely due to a pandemic caused by the coronavirus, without finding out the champion. At the time of the termination of the championship, the first place was taken by the Moscow region “Khimki”, but the second place was taken by the Moscow CSKA.
