Mavericks legend JJ Barea moves to Estudiantes in Spain

JJ Barea will continue his career in Europe. Like Marc Stein (New York Times) reports, the 36-year-old is moving to Estudiantes in the Spanish ACB.

Barea had been fired by the Dallas Mavericks shortly before the start of the season and had subsequently emphasized that he wanted to continue playing in any case, either in the NBA or elsewhere. Now Estudiantes has apparently secured his services.

The team from Madrid is currently only in 16th place in the ACB, so they should be hoping for a boost from the Puerto Rican. As Stein emphasizes, Barea could still switch to the NBA after the end of the season in Spain if an opportunity arises before the start of the playoff (May 16).

Barea spent a total of 14 years in the NBA, eleven of them with the Mavericks, with whom he became champions in 2011 alongside Dirk Nowitzki. In 831 career missions, the point guard averaged 8.9 points and 3.9 assists.
