Madars Razma in the money darts business with an audience of millions

Latvia’s best darts thrower Madars Razma has become a part of this impressive sport. Tournaments organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) attract a huge audience, so there is a lot of money in this sport. The best darts throwers can become millionaires thanks to cash prizes alone, but Razma tries not to burden himself with thoughts about money, because important steps have yet to be taken.

When watching darts, you can often see round gentlemen throwing arrows at the target. However, physical fitness is not so crucial in this sport, psychological endurance is perhaps even more important. “Dart throwing is exactly where the entertainment ends and the sport begins,” Razma described his sport. “Darts are easy, but it’s incredibly difficult to do very well.”

For the second time in his career, Razma competed in the PDC World Championship, the most important darts tournament. It has already been reported that the Latvian entered the second round of the tournament, where he gave in to the two-time world champion Scott Gary Anderson, who later played until the final of the tournament. The World Cup cash prize pool was £ 2.5 million (€ 2.77 million) and tournament winner Gervin Price from Wales won a £ 500,000 (€ 553,610) cash prize. Razma earned £ 15,000 (€ 16,610) in the second round.

When it comes to throwing darts, it’s impossible not to talk about money. The PDC’s world ranking is based on the cash prizes earned by athletes over two years. The new world champion Price is the leader in the rankings, earning £ 1.3 million (€ 1.44 million) in cash prizes during this period. Razma ranks 53rd in the world with 68,500 pounds (75,843 euros). Also relevant is the PDC “ProTour” rank, in which athletes are ranked after one year of income from cash prizes in the “Players Championship” and European tour tournaments. In it, Razma ranks 30th with 21,000 pounds (23,250 euros).

“Not everyone knows that we pay taxes, we still have our own expenses – travel, hotel, player fee and license fee. Of course, there is more tax in England, less in the rest of Europe. That is, the amounts of money seen in the rating are one thing. “But what we get is something else. But overall, it is very good money,” said Razma in a conversation with the portal “Delfi”.

Prior to entering the PDC tournaments, Razma competed in a semi-professional competition organized by the British Dart Organization (BDO). In an interview with the portal “Delfi” six years ago, the best dart thrower in Latvia told about the fact that he wants to break into the elite. At the moment, it can be considered that he has reached the elite, but his own goal continues to grow.
