Lucía, Lydia, Aida and Sara: Asturian women who are the national envy in cyclocross

Aida Nuño and Sara Cueto flanked Lucía González and put the icing on a day to remember in regional cycling. Mario Junquera, who suffered mechanical problems, finished fourth in the elite men’s category.

The forecasts already pointed to the fact that the duel between González and Nuño was one of the great attractions of the race. In the end, there was not much dispute, since Lucía González, a Nesta runner who had already been proclaimed national champion last year, left early to leave no room for doubt.

Despite Nuño’s attempts to hunt him down, his countrywoman from Siere was able to maintain the advantage lap after lap. The joy of the Asturian representation was total when the third place of Sara Cueto was confirmed, who circulated many laps alone to secure the bronze medal.

After getting off the podium, Lucía González said she felt “very happy”, and explained that “the race has gone well from the beginning. I think I came out calm and it was the key, not to make mistakes.

In the end I was able to take the victory and now, to enjoy it. Such heavy circuits cost me, I am still happier about it, because all my life they have cost me, but little by little I am adapting ”.

Equally solvent was the victory of the junior Lydia Pinto, who barely found rivals in the Galician Laura Mira, who was second, and the Valencian Ainara Albert, who finished in third place.

“To be able to take the Spanish Cup and now the Spanish Championship, the truth is that it is a dream. The mud in Asturias is usually the main thing and a circuit like this suited me very well, although the last lap was a bit heavy ”, confessed the junior cyclist after her great success.

In the rest of the categories, the victory in the elite men’s race of Felipe Orts, from the Teika team, stood out. Orts, who was the current national champion of the specialty, showed that he is still ahead of his rivals and soon opened an insurmountable gap. Kevin Suárez and Ismael Esteban completed the podium.
