Liberbank Oviedo Basketball: the strength of the block gives victories

The valuation of a team is a figure that results from the sum of the positive aspects (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and forced fouls), to which we must subtract the negative aspects (missed shots, lost balls and fouls committed). It is not usual for a group of the middle zone to surpass the leaders in this statistical category, but the Liberbank has succeeded. Accumulate 81.9 valuation points per game, beating Breogán (81.8) and Valladolid (76.3).

The four best rated players from Oviedo are, in this order, Arteaga (16.7), Norelia (14.1), Brown (11.2) and Speight (10.3). The veteran Canarian captain, with the minutes dosed to maintain his physical condition, continues to be an unquestionable benchmark. The limitation of his participation on the court fits like a glove on Lezkano’s idea.

These four players are also the team’s top scorers, although in this case the order varies. Brown is the most prolific, 12.4 points per game, followed by Norelia (11.7), Speight (11.5) and Arteaga (11.2). Liberbank is the only one in its group with four team members in more than eleven points. Melilla also enjoyed that condition, but one of them, former ocean player Sergio Llorente, ended his contract and left the North African club.

In the other group, where there are more productive teams at a statistical level, only two of them, Palma and Granada, match the Oviedo record.

The last two victories against Ourense and Melilla have cleared the way for Liberbank, which will play next Friday at 8pm on the Palencia court. The team coached by Asturian Arturo Álvarez is the fittest of the group, with four consecutive wins, but a new success from Lezkano would put OCB with more than one foot in the top group.

Frey’s discharge reduces turnover

Lezkano will have to rethink the rotation of the outside positions after confirming the dismissal of Harald Frey. The Norwegian guard will be absent from the courts for about a month, so he will lose practically everything that remains of the first phase. The Nordic international no longer traveled to Melilla, where the minutes in the base position were shared by Micah Speight and Pablo Ferreiro. So far, Frey’s greatest contribution is focused on the outside shot, although he has shown great irregularity, with ten hits from 35 shots attempted in the ten games played.
