“It is a personal taste to play in Peñarol”

Diego García, hours after confirming his transfer as a new Peñarol player, spoke with Básquetbol de Primera about the new step in his career.

When talking about his feelings about wearing aurinegra, he commented that “It is a personal pleasure to play the first league in Peñarol. The family is very happy and without a doubt that if the old man were with us he would be too ”.

On what he did after his participation ended the League that has yet to be defined, he said: “After we were out with Defensor, I took a week to clean my head and then I trained individual technique as much as possible. I started training after that week, I was able to train one day and I had to cut a week due to the measures for the increase in cases of coronavirus. I was going to sports squares, I was playing domes with several strangers in some square to show the vice a little. Now I already got a court that I rented so I could go running and shoot alone, sometimes with a partner hand in hand and lately in an academy with a teacher to go back to doing basketball ”.

He also spoke about future training sessions that he would have with the coal club: “We are training from Monday to Friday every morning, without opposition, physical work and going to shoot at the Peñarol Palace. One group goes to the living room, another goes to the court and there we are dividing. Later we will see how it continues ”.

On whether the establishment he joins seduces him, he replied that: “Definitely. It’s one of the things I joined for. One obviously for being Peñarol and also for the squad. I already played with Panchi and felt good again. When the double base is there, it is a matter that one grabs it and raises it and you understand. They are players of the highest quality and I think they are going to empower us all. We are all basketball players and we understand that there are moments for one and moments for others. There is room for everyone and that will be a matter of the parties and of understanding each other. I have no doubt that it will be something very natural because they are all very intelligent players that it will be easy for them to adapt. I think we are going to have a good year and that we are going to be able to enjoy it ”.

Finally, he recalled his father, who was a fan of Peñarol: “As a boy I fought him a bit, I told him that I was a Welcome fan and that he was a fan of a basketball team that didn’t exist at that time. My father made us all from Peñarol in the family, he lived the two quinquennial years, the world final against Real Madrid, imagine. I have the whole family now very happy that they will be able to live it and that will be a memory that we will all have ”.
