LThe 2021 edition of the Indian Wells Masters, one of the most important events on the calendar beyond the Grand Slams, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. If the tournament manages to fit into the tight schedule, everything indicates that It will be held on a date very close to the US Open 2021.
It was scheduled to be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden en California, United States, between March 8 and 21, 2021, but now it has been delayed. The defending champions (from 2019 since it was not contested this year for the same reason) are the Austrian Dominic Thiem and Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
In a statement, organizers said: “The tournament is working proactively with ATP and WTA Tours, as well as title sponsor, BNP Paribas, to confirm dates later in the year to hold the event. Details will be released in the near future as plans are outlined. “
“This decision was made after extensive consultation with state and local health authorities and tournament owner Larry Ellison,” the statement added.
The 2020 edition has already been canceled on the same day that qualification for the tournament is due to begin, a move that provoked criticism from some of the players who had to compete.
